WHAT IS MEDICAL ACUPUNCTURE AND WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?
Medical Acupuncture is a Western system of acupuncture that blends tradition with science for a very effective treatment of musculoskeletal injuries. After an evaluation and diagnosis, points along meridians are chosen that best help treat the presenting symptoms. The benefits are pain relief, improved mobility and accelerated recovery of injuries
WHAT IS INVOLVED?
During a typical Medical Acupuncture treatment, thin filament acupuncture needles are inserted into acupuncture points along acupuncture meridians. There can be from a few needles to 20 or more needles inserted and they are usually left in place for up to 20 minutes. Treatments often include the use of electrical stimulation to enhance the treatment effect.
HOW DOES IT WORK AND WHY IS IT SO EFFECTIVE?
The insertion of needles into points along meridians help decrease pain and muscle spasm by reflex mechanisms of the nervous system. The use of electrical stimulation often enhances the effect of the acupuncture treatment. Acupuncture has been proven to be an effective modality for pain management and treatment of acute and chronic injuries.
