Functional Integrated Therapy™
Functional Integrated Therapy™ (FIT) is an innovative and highly successful approach to assessing and treating soft tissue injuries and optimizing athletic performance.
It has been used to treat professional, Olympic and world championship athletes, alongside active individuals and weekend warriors — and is often used as part of post-surgical recovery.
FIT speeds up recovery from injuries, restores proper function and improves performance.
Developed by Dr. Mark Scappaticci
Functional Integrated Therapy™ was developed by Dr. Mark Scappaticci, a Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician who has spent his career treating athletes at the very highest level.
Registered with the National Sport Centre of Canada to treat Canadian Olympic athletes, he has worked with world-class track and field Olympians from several nations and contributed to the last three summer and two winter Olympic Games.
He serves as a consulting chiropractor to the Toronto Maple Leafs and Atlanta Braves, and consults with teams and athletes across the NHL, NFL, NBA and MLB.
An Elite Active Release Techniques® provider and lead instructor, Dr. Scappaticci built Functional Integrated Therapy™ out of decades of experience discovering that no single technique resolves complex injuries on its own — the body responds best when soft tissue, joints and the nervous system are treated together.
What makes it different
Most therapy treats one thing at a time. Functional Integrated Therapy™ treats the body the way it actually works — as a connected system.
The cornerstone of FIT is its multifaceted approach: it addresses soft tissue, joint biomechanics and the nervous system together, rather than in isolation. Taking this holistic view of assessment and treatment reflects how the body genuinely functions, allowing all elements — mechanics, soft tissue and nerve function — to heal and reach optimal function at the same time.
How it works
Every FIT treatment begins with a thorough examination. Your provider comprehensively assesses your biomechanics — soft tissue, joint and nervous system function — to identify the true root cause of the problem, not just the symptoms.
From there, your provider builds a customized treatment plan, drawing on the combination of therapies best suited to your specific needs:
-
- Functional Integrated Needling
The FIN approach integrates a variety of dry needling techniques in a single session to maximize recovery from soft tissue pain. - Medical Acupuncture
A Western system of acupuncture that blends tradition with science for highly effective treatment of musculoskeletal injuries. - Orthotics
Custom-made inserts that treat biomechanical foot disorders to relieve foot, knee and back pain. - The Fascial Abrasion Technique
Uses a specially designed tool to identify and treat areas of fascial tension, improving quality of movement and treating muscle and fascia injuries. - Active Release Technique (ART)
Uses motion to locate and break up scar tissue and adhesions caused by injury or repetitive movement over time. - Myo-Matrix Release Technique (MMR)
Identifies lines of tissue tension in three dimensions and normalizes tissue mechanics to relieve the cause of soft tissue pain. - Shockwave Therapy
High-powered sound waves that treat and relieve pain from soft tissue conditions such as tendonitis, plantar fasciitis, frozen shoulder and other chronic tendon and joint conditions. - Synergy Performance Taping
Kinesiology taping that corrects muscle function and improves motor control, helping reduce pain and assist recovery after treatment. - Chiropractic Joint Manipulation Techniques
Ensures joints move freely and function properly, relieving pain and decreasing muscle tension.
- Functional Integrated Needling
