She holds a Bachelor of Science Honours Degree in Kinesiology from the University of Western Ontario and is credentialed in Contemporary Medical and Neurofunctional Acupuncture from McMaster University. Dr. Katie has a background in Eastern Medicine, and is studying to be a Traditional Chinese Medicine Acupuncturist at the Institute of Traditional Medicine in Toronto. She is also certified as a Mei Zen Cosmetic Acupuncture practitioner, and Mei Zen Fertility and Abdominal / Digestive Health Acupuncture practitioner.
Dr. Katie has a special interest in the rehabilitation of sport- and repetitive strain-related injuries, as well as exercise therapy as it relates to injury prevention, improving posture, and overall fitness. She is a full-body certified Toronto Active Release Techniques (ART®) provider in Spine, Upper Limb, Lower Limb, and Long Tract Nerve Entrapments, a movement-based soft tissue technique that treats injuries, overuse conditions, restores function, strength, range of motion, and optimizes performance. She is also a certified Level 2 provider of Graston Technique (GT®), an instrument-assisted soft-tissue mobilization enabling the effective breakdown of scar tissue, fascial restrictions, and treatment of other acute and chronic injuries. As a complement to her manual therapy skills, Dr. Katie is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association, a L1 National Coaching Certificate holder, and has also completed specialty courses in infant and paediatric chiropractic care, with expertise in treating pregnancy related pain, as well as offering Webster Technique like therapy, and acupuncture (with Chinese Moxibustion when indicated), for moms with breech /mal- positioned babies.
Dr. Katie believes in movement as medicine. She utilizes a movement-based, functional approach when working with her patients and clients. She incorporates advanced neuromusculoskeletal assessments and functional movement screens with traditional orthopaedic testing in order to diagnose and treat not only the area of complaint, but the root cause of the problem. As a Chiropractor who is also an experienced personal trainer, Dr. Katie has a unique knowledge of biomechanics, anatomy and exercise physiology, which allows her to seamlessly implement manual therapy, training, and exercise rehabilitation treatment programs to improve functional ability, core stability, strength, power, and endurance. Patient education, preventative stretching / strengthening exercises, precise hands-on treatment, physical rehabilitation, nutrition, and ergonomic advice are key elements of Dr. Katies practice as she works with her patients to not just meet, but exceed their health, wellness and performance goals! During her spare time, Dr. Katie works as a Clinical Director in Health Promotion for the Special Olympics Canada, and is also involved with the Ontario Local Health Integration Network (LHIN) Liasion.
